Tim Tebow Don't Know Jesus
Would Jesus spend $3 million on a thirty second spot to preach to millions? Well, I'm no expert but I don't think it jives with the Gospel of Matthew at least.
Nonetheless, Tim Tebow is putting on the ad, and if you are a facebook friend of mine, you know that I have noted several interesting takes on it (it is just too easy to paste on Twitter/Facebook, so I do it more often than I post here). But I think this article from NPR's "Only a Game" show nails the subject.
I'm looking forward to my Mom posting in the comments on this issue - she is apparently now a fan of Mike and Mike on ESPN so I'm sure she has been thinking about it!
Update:Slate has a great take on this by Will Saletan:
Being dead is just the first problem with dying in pregnancy. Another problem is that the fetus you were trying to save dies with you. A third problem is that your existing kids lose their mother. A fourth problem is that if you had aborted the pregnancy, you might have gotten pregnant again and brought a new baby into the world, but now you can't. And now the Tebows have exposed a fifth problem: You can't make a TV ad.

I got a LOL moment when I saw the 4 attributes you put on this posting. Kind of encapsulates all of "Amurica", don't you think?

File under abortion
To be fair, I would say this is an abortion issue, and only tangentially related to religion. Being religious/christian isn't a prerequisite to being pro-life. 74%* of Americans believe abortion should not be illegal in all cases, and 76%* of Americans identify themselves as christian. Therefore at least half the christian population in the US supports some form of abortion. This superbowl ad apparently won't be making a pro-life argument based on any religious grounds.
I would also argue that a low-key pro-life superbowl ad is a more acceptable way to express your views than running around burning down abortion clinics and murdering abortion doctors.

Filing strategies
Thanks garbage - spot on. I agree with you totally, but the reason I didn't put abortion as a tag is because I try to tag with things I talk about frequently (this is why I also didn't tag it Tebow - I hope to forget about him soon).
I did tag it as Christian and religion, because the group behind it claims to be Christian. Even though I think the majority of people who also identify as Christian do not support the fundamentalist and myopic views of Focus on the Family, groups like that continue to dominate the mainstream representation of Christianity. So that is how I would defend myself - I know many Christians who hold deeply conflicting views with other Christians on all manner of issues, so I didn't mean to imply any 1:1 relationship between calling oneself a Christian and thoughts on abortion.
